New (tropical) Arrivals...

It's spring again. The plants have awaken from their winter sleep. The Basjoo already has a foot of new growth and the cherries are about to burst into bloom. Spring is a time for renewal, a time when you find out that some things have succumbed to their forced winter nap. Those openings are filled with new plants.
I also noticed that my plant ledge in my room is fast filling up.

This year's new tropical plants:

Tillandsia caput medusae:
Medusa's head air plant

It needs not dirt to survive, living off of moisture in the air. Despite this, I actually have to water it more often by misting because the air here is too dry.

Musa Dwarf Red:
Dwarf Red Banana

An edible banana that has a red peel instead of yellow. The inside is reputed to be orange tinted. Thank you Angel for this wonderful contribution :)

This is only part one. One can imagine that I will get more and more plants throughout the year. Plus, I have the rundown of all the outdoor plants to do. That may or may not come later... and of course, the banana update. I should get a flower this year.
Happy Spring!
-Alex
